Context

Babylon Berlin is a German tv series rolling on Sky, set in the Berlin of the 1920s.

It is based on books by Volker Kutscher, the plots of which span from 1929 to 1934. The protagonist is police inspector Gereon Rath, who has been transferred from the city of Cologne to the capital.

The series premiered on 13 October 2017 on Sky 1, a German-language entertainment channel broadcast by Sky Deutschland.





Goals: Create the launch campaign to promote and showcase the series.

Challenges: Communicate the core concepts, visuality and feeling of an extremely interesting but also extremely contradictory era. Limitation of working with limited initial material from the client. It was the most expensive television drama series in Germany, with a budget of €55 million, the campaign had to convert and be successful.

Concept

Research on 20’s style and create the communication to promote and showcase the series, the task was to communicate the core concepts, visuality and feeling of an extremely interesting but also extremely contradictory era.



Campaign

The campaign spanned from digital to traditional adv media. The microsite served as a storytelling platform for the audience, providing content around the series characters, Spotify integration with direct access to the soundtrack, and social media integration.

The show has also been sold to 60 TV markets,
including the United Kingdom and the United States.

The series “Babylon Berlin” had its world premiere in Berlin on 28 September 2017 and in Los Angeles on 6 October 2017.
